Mr Makoya Dedicates Song to Zambezi Region

unWrap.onlineThe Kanye West of Katima has teamed up with the Kings of Zambezi region, as he calls them, to give the people from the northern part of that area a prayer song.

The song titled ‘Lapele’ (meaning prayer) is about uniting people and asking them to pray together and uplift the region.

“I believe in unity and strength in more numbers together than apart. A lot has happened, the killing of the Nchindo brothers and their cousin, the death of Masubia traditional leader chief Munitenge Kisco Liswani III. Plus the infighting happening on developing the region and land issues is a sore subject.”

The song is meant to inspire and make the people of the Zambezi region reflect on what can be done to move forward instead of backwards.

“There are a lot of people with brilliant ideas that can help us move in the right direction, but the cohesion and camaraderie lack sometimes within the different tribes.”

Quizzed why he chose to feature DJ Vuyo and DJ Siya, he says these guys have been consistent from the get-go and have been holding the torch high.

“It was inevitable when it came to choosing the right artists for a song of this magnitude. This is also to display that teaming up with figures like them brings people from all walks of life together because we come from different backgrounds,” he explained.

As most will have it, the pandemic has also slowed things down for their youth soccer league TV show, which has been halted because contact sports have been prohibited.

“I hope contact sports can be reinstated because the youth are most affected by not being on the field. Soccer is a healthy sport that has brought joy to them and teaches them to be professional athletes in the near future. Imagine watching your child scoring a goal just as their heroes in Europe and them getting better week in and out – it’s priceless.”

Mr Makoya is gearing up to release his fourth studio album titled ‘Son of the Soil’, later in the year. Last year, he released visuals of ‘Can’t Stop Us’ featuring DJ Dozza.
