More than seven people have died of suspected food poisoning at Kayova village in the Kavango East region, regional crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told The Namibian.

It’s alleged that the people died after consuming porridge made from the residue of traditionally brewed alcohol on Saturday.

Kanyetu said the police have sent out a team who are busy establishing what led to the deaths.

“Our people are still on the ground in the Ndiyona and Nyangana areas, respectively. We will keep you posted as soon as we get results,” said Kanyetu.

This is a developing story.
