More than 40% of election results declared

About 41% of the Presidential and National Assembly election results have been declared, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced on Sunday.

The results of the presidential election were released at 11h13, while the results for the National Assembly elections were yet to be loaded on the ECN elections website at the time.

Swapo-Party presidential candidate Hage Geingob led with 81% of the votes, while DTA of Namibia presidential candidate McHenry Venaani was in second place with 9%. Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) presidential candidate Hidipo Hamutenya was in third place, having obtained 4% of the votes.

Namibians went to the polls on Friday, and the counting process is underway. The full results are expected to be released by Sunday afternoon, although no specific time has been announced.
