Minister Luvindao questioned over mpox outbreak

Affirmative Repositioning parliamentarian Tuhafeni Kalola on Tuesday asked health and social services minister Esperance Luvindao about the ministry’s strategies to curb the spread of mpox.

This follows the recent confirmed case at Swakopmund.

The health ministry on Tuesday said 44 individuals were identified through contact tracing linked to one confirmed mpox case.

Luvindao on Tuesday confirmed that since the first confirmed case on Saturday, Namibia has recorded only two mpox cases, mainly from Swakopmund, both currently under medical supervision.

The ministry says it continues to monitor the situation and will keep the public updated.
