THREE men found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they were apprehended by the City Police early yesterday morning while in possession of burglary tools.
The trio was driving very slowly through the Eros residential area, and drew the attention of the City Police officers on patrol.
Upon closer inspection, they were found to be in possession of several burglary tools like crowbars, side cutters, a hacksaw, a screwdriver and three balaclavas.
As they were being apprehended, they told the members of the City Police that they were ‘working’, and were going to use the tools in the vehicle for their “work”.
The City Police officers always conduct ‘responsive patrols’, as soon as they receive information about suspicious movements in residential areas.
“The moment you see a vehicle moving slowly or being parked in your area, please call the City Police so that we can come out and investigate,” Superintendent Gerry Shikesho told Nampa yesterday.
He said sometimes, two or more criminals move ahead to scout the area on foot, while their getaway car follows them slowly from a distance.
“Criminals would sometimes also park their vehicle and pretend to engage in a discussion, creating the impression that they are talking about something while they would be observing the area so that they can come back later to commit crimes,” he explained.
All three suspects are known to the City Police as all of them were arrested for housebreaking before.
One is still sporting a slight limp after he was shot during a previous housebreak in one of Windhoek’s south-western suburbs.
Another one of the suspects is currently out on bail after he was involved in a similar crime previously.
The Oshakati-registered vehicle in which they were travelling, a Toyota Corolla sedan, was impounded by the City Police.
Their case is now under investigation.
