Petrus Shikwaya, accused of defrauding Sanlam Namibia of N$66 000 by faking severe malnutrition, was not admitted to hospital as records claim, the Onandjokwe Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday.
Shikwaya, who is also linked to the murder of Ondangwa prosecutor, Justine Shiweda, allegedly claimed the Sanlam insurance payout for being hospitalised at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital for malnutrition.
The accusation was made by public prosecutor Erastus Christiana during the bail hearing of Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital intern doctor Kelsey Kudumo (32) in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Kudumo is accused of participating in the insurance fraud scheme involving falsified medical reports and laboratory results, amounting to more than N$2.1 million.
The state also alleges that two medical doctors, Fillemon Nakanduungile and Varela Gomes, and a former Onandjokwe nurse, Festus Amwaalwa, were part of the criminal network.
The prosecution argues that medical records were falsified to support the claim, despite Shikwaya allegedly not being admitted to the hospital during the relevant period
Kudumo, however, denied any knowledge of Shikwaya’s alleged hospitalisation and told the court she does not know him.
Shikwaya told the court last month that he was not hospitalised at Onandjokwe, and that his co-accused and uncle, Abner Mateus, used his (Shikwaya’s) name to claim the money.
