A MEMORIAL service for gospel singer Charlz is due to be held today with the gospel community expected to send the late singer off in a perfect tribute to what he loved most – music.
More than 15 gospel artists are expected to perform at the memorial, among them the likes of Rupaa, D-Naff, The Head and Yvonne.
Born Charles Nguvenjengua Zambuee, the Namibian gospel singer known simply as Charlz died on Sunday, 16 January after a short illness at Katutura Hospital.
He was a finalist in the Best Gospel Artist category in the 2012 Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) and was the founder and president of Charlz Muzik Records. He is described by those close to him as a down-to-earth individual whose music broke tribal boundaries and united many.
Charlz was born on 5 December 1983 and went on to produce four albums, ‘Ngatujere Omeho’ (2009), ‘Amen’ (2011), ‘Increase in Me’ (2013) and ‘Uzira’ (2015).
He will be buried at Okahandja this Saturday.
“This is a loss to the gospel community because he was one the established artists, many came and went but he was consistent with his work,” award-winning gospel musician D-Naff said about the death of Charlz.
The memorial service in honour of the late artist will be held today at 17h30 at the Namibia Pentecostal Assembly situated behind Miami Service Station in Joseph Vambo street (white church).
“We have compiled an album, dubbed ‘The Very Best of Charlz’, and it will be sold at the memorial to help raise funds for the bereaved family. It will be a celebratory event in honour of our beloved brother,” said Shadreck Nyaungwa, the late artist’s manager and producer, said.
