A COLD front from the South Atlantic Ocean will continue to bring cold weather and rainfall for various regions across the country.
Namibia Meteorological Service forecaster, Odillo Kgobetsi on Sunday morning said the cold front is expected to last at least until the middle of next week, with near freezing temperatures in south-western areas.
A cold front is understood as an advancing mass of cold air, which typically brings rain and changes in wind direction and strength.
Areas that are expected to receive rain include Noordoewer, Aus and Karasburg. Day and night time temperatures will also drop in these areas.
Rain is also predicted at the southern coast, namely Oranjemund, by tomorrow.
According to Kgobetsi, there will be a drop in temperatures over the central and eastern areas, while Hardap and Karas are predicted to be cloudy, with winds of up to 20 to 30 kilometres per hour on Monday and Tuesday.
The northern regions, however, are expected to be cool in the morning but sunny and warm during the day.
Over the weekend thus far, rainfall was recorded in five south-western towns, with the highest being in Aus with 39 millilitres. Jakkalskop, Karasburg, Noordoewer and Lüderitz also experienced rainfall.
South African weather reporters have dubbed this past weekend as one of the most eventful in southern Africa, as the ‘major’ cold front has brought gale force winds and snow to parts of South Africa, namely the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape provinces were affected.
