Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi has extended his party’s condolences to the families of the 14 people who died in a crash at Mariental on Saturday.
“On behalf of the Landless People’s Movement and myself, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this unimaginable loss,” he says in a press statement.
Swartbooi says words cannot capture the sense of grief and emptiness that lingers long after losing a loved one so suddenly and tragically.
The accident is an indication that Namibia’s roads are not safe, he says.
“These tragedies underscore the urgent need for improved road infrastructure, effective safety measures, and timely responses that can save lives when accidents occur,” he says.
The Road Safety Council of Namibia has recorded over 100 deaths, 300 serious injuries and over 3 000 road crashes in 2025 so far.
Swartbooi says these statistics represent lives cut short, families shattered, and communities in mourning.
He urges the authorities to ensure safe roads, and communities to embrace road safety.
