The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) is calling for a four-day fast and prayer session to ensure a peaceful election process.
LPM leader Bernadus Swartbooi says this will take place from 24 to 27 November.
In a statement on Monday, Swartbooi said Namibians should pray that the divine will prevails in Namibia.
LPM spokesperson Lifalaza Simataa highlighted that the prayer session is not mandatory and will not infringe on the rights of non-Christian members. He said members can partake in ways that best suit their beliefs.
Simataa noted that the prayer session aims to prevent the chaos that erupted last week, when tear gas was released into a crowd to maintain order at the Windhoek West polling station during a special election exercise.
“We want to have a peaceful election, whatever the outcome. We hope Namibia is able to survive and no violence occurs,” he said.
