A KAVANGO father was overcome with joy recently when he was reunited with his teenage son who had gone missing nine years ago.
Eugen Kandjimi is said to have gone missing from Satotwa village in 2001. This village is situated about 75 km southwest of Rundu.
The 15-year-old boy was reunited with his father, Maurus Kandjimi, in May.According to Chief Inspector Moritz !Naruseb, Kavango regional crime co-ordinator, the matter was only brought to the Police’s attention on May 19 this year.He said the boy was found in the Mile 30 village, which is also situated south of Rundu. The two villages are about 30 km apart. The boy was never reported as missing in the nine years, !Naruseb said: He said the boy, who appeared disorientated, was not able to provide any details about his whereabouts since 2001. ‘It seems he had been walking around in the mahangu fields, but no one really knows where he had been.’Maurus Kandjimi, who lives in Swakopmund’s DRC settlement, yesterday afternoon told The Namibian that they had suspected the boy had been ‘stolen’. He said they ‘didn’t think about it (reporting Eugen as missing to the Police)’.He said the boy went missing while he was herding goats.According to him, the boy has scars on his face and claims to have been beaten with a sjambok.Meanwhile, !Naruseb said the Kavango Police were still busy with their investigation into the alleged disappearance of three other villagers the past year. This came after reports last week that three people had been ‘abducted’ from Ncumcara village. It was reported that one of the three people was later found dead, while one was still missing. Thomas Mukisi (21) was allegedly abducted on June 3 and brought back to his hut two days later by two unidentified men. While he was allegedly held hostage, he claimed to have been ‘forced to cut timbers’, it was reported. The Kavango Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Olavi Auanga, last week launched an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of the three villagers in this region.!Naruseb the past week said these alleged mysterious disappearances were also never reported to the Police.
