Living The Dream With Ndapewa

Lights, camera, action.

If that is not enough , be sure to add flight tickets.

This is the dream life for many Namibians, but not so for globetrotting content creator, beauty influencer and pharmacist Ndapewa Nakanyala Koneka.

Well, she does not only travel for fun, but does it with relative financial rewards.

“One is content seeing the river until they see the ocean and their mind no longer gets satisfied by the size of the river,”she says.

She adds: “I love seeing new places. It opens up my mind. When you visit a new place, not only do you get to experience the most beautiful views and rich cultures, but are opened up to a different kind of mindset that impacts your ways of viewing the world as a whole.”

Koneka says traveling has opened endless possibilities for her.

“I get to experience new ways of living and new standards of living that make me realise that anything is possible and it makes one work harder to get to where they want to be because you have been exposed to better,” she says.

Koneka’s milestone came when she was selected as one of the ten Namibian content creators and personalities who partnered with Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) on an influencer deal that saw average travel loversvvisiting resorts around the country and documenting their experiences for social media.

“Teaming up with NWR was an experience that I will treasure forever. I had such an amazing time. The only down moment was the fact that we started late due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the organisers unfortunately also could not extend our deal, but I had the time of my life,” she says.

Born at Ondangwa and growing up at Tsumeb,Koneka found herself in Windhoek to pursue her studies, internship and subsequently found a full-time job as a pharmacist .

“I like pharmacy because I get to interact with different patients from all walks of life who just want medication or medical advice to get better. Helping them leaves me so fulfilled. On the other hand, I do get involved in other projects as a means of an escape when work gets a bit overwhelming. It fuels me and enables me to perform to the best of my ability in all my occupations. Doing this has bettered my life in such a significant way as I have a sense of purpose and something that I can always wake up to,” she says.

Like many now living their dreams, Koneka says it was not always a bed of roses as she had to sweat for every opportunity that she got in life.

“I took a year off just for scholarship hunting. During that year I would go to the library quite often and I built a relationship with the librarian lady, who showed me an advert in the newspaper about a scholarship from the ministry of health, so I applied and got accepted for a fully funded scholarship.

“It took a lot of faith and hard work. As years passed by I have learned that you don’t get in life what you want, you get in life what you are. So you need to embody your dreams and become one with them,” she says.

She says she enjoyed her childhood.
