Let’s Get Physical- All About Body Language

For most, flirting and attraction are a pesky mix of lucky timing, awkward glances and terrible pick-up lines. And while most of us tend to read into just about everything, knowing about some of these amazing – and crazy – factors that come into play when flirting could prove quite useful in getting a date or two.

Her belly button, how similar to his mother you look and the way she tilts her head… any one of these could say more than any words. Attraction is either there or it isn’t and if your body language says ‘unavailable’ or ‘not interested’, you can be sure that an admirer will pick up on it and respond in the same way.

Most body language is unconscious and subliminal. There is a direct line of communication between the brain and the body that lies outside our conscious awareness, so there’s practically no way of someone hiding how they truly feel about you if you’re clued up on these subtle signals.

Leaning toward the person and tilting your head often shows interest and engagement while leaning away or avoiding eye contact signals lack of interest. Even if you’re extremely shy, try to maintain eye contact as much as possible!

Raised eyebrows and or a quick rise and fall of the eyebrows typically express interest and possibly even anxiety. While this is mostly subconsciously done, you can do it deliberately to show attentiveness.

When a crush mirrors your moves, they’re subconsciously telling you they’re interested in you. Sitting the same way as you, doing the same hand motions and leaning their head in the same direction are all subtle cues that they’re attracted to you.

If you and your guy’s mom look alike, there’s a good chance it’ll work out between you two. Men are more likely to pair up with women whose bone structure is similar to their own mothers. It’s called ‘sexual imprinting’ and suggests that the faces we find appealing as adults are determined in childhood. The same goes for females and their fathers.

A man will subconsciously position his belly button and feet toward the person in the room he is most attracted to — even if he’s speaking with someone else. Suss out your competition by checking out who’s pointing their belly buttons at him since the rule applies to females as well.
