Three years after their first collaboration, the duo, Hitjivirue Katjatenja (Skrypt) and Kamaaizemi Hoveka (KP Illest) have officially returned with an album titled ‘It’s Still Giving’.
Their newly released follow-up project to 2023’s ‘It’s Giving’, represents a direct continuation of that collaborative journey.
The duo says the new album catches them both at different phases in their personal lives and professional careers.
“The whole core idea is right there in the title,” the duo says when breaking down the concept behind the release.
“The first album was about us capturing a very specific moment and proving that two artists with completely different styles could come together and make something cohesive. ‘It’s Still Giving’ is us saying that moment never really ended.
“Three years later, we’ve matured as men, grown as individuals, and navigated different life experiences, but the minute we step into the studio together, that chemistry is still right there. If anything, it’s stronger now.”
Reflecting on how their workflow has shifted over the past three years, the pair notes that the creative process for the original record was largely an exercise in trial and discovery – a process of mapping out how KP’s precise, rapid-fire delivery and Skrypt’s smooth, melodic flows could naturally sit side by side.
Returning to the studio for the second installation, however, felt entirely different. Backed by a proven formula, the artists found themselves working with a heightened sense of creative freedom.
Rather than attempting to recreate the exact soundscapes that defined their first outing, the pair approached ‘It’s Still Giving’ with a willingness to take bigger creative risks, drawing heavily on the life lessons, victories, losses, and personal responsibilities that have accumulated since their last joint release.
“Three years is a long time in real life,” they share.
“Naturally, those real-world experiences come through in the music. The confidence, energy, and fun that listeners associate with us are still very much intact, but there is definitely more weight and perspective behind the records this time around. You can hear that we’ve lived a bit more.”
A central anchor of the new project is the stand-out track ‘After All This Time’, which picks up the narrative thread directly from ‘Love You Like I Do’ on the previous album.
Conceptually, the song serves as an emotional bridge between both eras, reflecting on how relationships, creative bonds, and personal feelings evolve over time rather than simply fading away.
On the vocal side, the guest list was kept intentionally lean, featuring targeted contributions from Ian Lovly, Etienne Boois, Wadesixfour, Solange, and StakesBoy.
According to the duo, every collaborator was chosen specifically to serve the narrative of their respective track rather than just to stack up recognisable names.
“A sequel can easily become an exercise in trying to reproduce whatever people liked about the first project,” they reflect.
“The real breakthrough moment came when we stopped trying to match the exact sound of the old record and realised that the true connection between these albums isn’t the beat selection or a specific sound, it’s us. Once we understood that, we were able to step back and let this project take on its own distinct identity.”
As ‘It’s Still Giving’ rolls out nationwide, KP Illest and Skrypt are already looking ahead to translating the studio energy onto the stage, promising a live touring experience that weaves both projects into a single continuous story.
“At the end of the day, we want people to put their headphones on, turn it up, and just have fun with it,” they say.
“Underneath the party tracks and the confidence, the underlying message is about growing up without losing the core element that made you special in the first place. Three years later… it’s still giving.”
