NAMIBIAN international second-rower Heinz Koll finally made his much anticipated competitive debut for English premiership side, Wasps on Saturday
Koll made his maiden appearance in an LV Cup contest against Exeter at Adams Park and lined-up next to fellow Namibian Tinus du Plessis in the pack following his arrival at the club in recent weeks. While Koll got his Wasps career underway, he made a losing start as his side were beaten 16-30.The Wasps complete their LV Cup pool programme next Saturday, when they travel to Northampton Saints.The opening stages were dominated by kicks from both sides as Wasps’ Ryan Davis and Exeter’s Gareth Steensonboth scored early penalties.Exeter started to take control of the match halfway through the first period and Dave Ewers scored the first try of the match with an accurate Steenson converting the following kick.Myles Dorian extended Exeter’s lead with a well-taken try after a Davis penalty had brought Wasps back into the match.Steenson again scored the following conversion before adding a penalty to his list of successes.Wasps continued to fail to threaten and Alistair Muldowney came off the bench to score Exeter’s fourth try which was also converted by Steenson.Mike Powell was able to score a consolation try for Wasps in the final minute and William Robinson kicked the conversion in the final phase of the match. Meanwhile Jacques Burger’s Saracens beat Worcester Warriors 41-14 in their cup match on Sunday.
