Klazinga back for T20 World Cup qualifiers

Cricket Namibia recently announced it’s 15-man squad that will tour the United Arab Emirates for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers, starting on 15 November.

All-rounder Sarel Burger will captain the team, while batsman Raymond van Schoor will be the vice captain.

The team also sees the return of pace bowler Louis Klazinga who was out of action for six months after undergoing a shoulder operation.

The team has a good mix of youth and experience, while there is depth and strong competition in all areas.

Amongst the opening batsmen Raymond van Schoor, LP van der Westhuizen and Pikkie Ya France will be the main contenders, while there are solid middle order batsmen in the likes of Sarel Burger, Craig Williams, Stephen Baard, Gerhard Erasmus, Christi Viljoen and Nicolaas Scholtz.

Klazinga and Christi Viljoen will lead the bowling attack, which includes seam bowlers JJ Smit, Craig Williams, Sarel Burger and Stephen Baard, and spinners LP van der Westhuizen, Bernard Scholtz and Tobie Verwey.

Namibia will come up against the 2012 edition winners, Ireland, in their first group stage game in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament will see 16 sides, split into two groups of eight, competing for six available spots in the ICC World Twenty20 2014 in Bangladesh. Namibia will compete in Group A along with Ireland, the UAE, the United States, Italy, Hong Kong, Canada and Uganda.

Group B consists of Afghanistan, Bermuda, Denmark, Kenya, Nepal, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.

The non-travelling reserves are Christopher Coombe and Michau du Preez.
