Kissing Democracy Goodbye

Kissing Democracy Goodbye

WE call ourselves democratic; how farfetched! Is it not when choices are subject to unanimous decisions? If considering the response to the public’s objections regarding the bill on former President Sam Nujoma to be called our Founding Father, we surely may kiss our democracy goodbye.

Should we not first get answers regarding those massacres and what has happened during the exile period, before bestowing titles upon people? As one of the future leaders (clichéd but true) I demand that we should be told what has really happened during the exile period in countries bordering us. Presently I am reading ‘Struggle betrayed’ and ‘A journey to exile’ According to these two books a lot of betrayal and cheating has happened. If what has been written in those books is true then it would be no pleasure for the Namibian nation to witness the reality of that bill on Founding Father. It will be a certain stab in the back for the Namibian nation.Dr Sam Nujoma is not the president anymore – why is he still the centre of attention? In fact, it was not only he who fought the freedom struggle, or was it? There are many people who had to pay for our freedom with their lives, sanity and trust and still pay for it when those remorseful memories come back, yet they are not shown any thanks, and now we have to acknowledge just one person and that, for the mere fact that he once was our first President.Jemima Beukes WindhoekPresently I am reading ‘Struggle betrayed’ and ‘A journey to exile’ According to these two books a lot of betrayal and cheating has happened. If what has been written in those books is true then it would be no pleasure for the Namibian nation to witness the reality of that bill on Founding Father. It will be a certain stab in the back for the Namibian nation.Dr Sam Nujoma is not the president anymore – why is he still the centre of attention?
