Keetmanshoop gets foreign help

A TEAM of Finnish water engineers last week paid a seven-day familiarisation visit to Keetmanshoop.

Dr Pekka Pietila, a senior researcher at Tamapere University of Technology in Finland, said the aim was to investigate how they could help Keetmanshoop to improve its water services. The assistance forms part of a partnership agreement the town is expected to sign with either the town of Lempaala or Kangasala in Finland this week.Pietila headed the three-member delegation.”We plan to design an updated electronic map for the town of Keetmanshoop to do away with the current manual maps,” he said.Pietila said the team’s primary focus would be on water wastage. In her welcoming remarks, Mayor Finna Elago said the Council’s efforts to seek international assistance have finally paid off.”Council is happy to have you here and very eager to learn from your valuable expertise,” she said.
