The removal of Keetmanshoop acting chief executive Desiree Boois allegedly comes after financial non-compliance, with councillors pointing to a financial services company that was appointed without following procurement procedures.
The chairperson of the meeting that resolved to remove her, councillor Emrico Blaauw, told The Namibian on Thursday that concerns also remain over incomplete financial records at the municipality.
“The financial company brought in to assist with the municipality’s records has not completed its work,” he said.
He said there was also no audit done for the past two years while she was the strategic executive.
Blaauw said councillors were concerned that the municipality’s financial affairs would remain unresolved despite the engagement of an external company to assist with financial record-keeping.
The allegations come at a time when the municipality is already facing legal and governance challenges.
A court order seen by The Namibian shows that the attorney general’s office sought instructions from the acting chief executive regarding an urgent court application involving the municipality but allegedly failed to respond to it.
The municipality has in recent weeks also been embroiled in a dispute over the composition of its management committee, with the High Court temporarily reinstating two committee members pending the outcome of a review application.
Efforts to get Boois for comment proved unsuccessful at the time of this report.
This also comes just weeks after the removal of Keetmanshoop mayor Melody Swartbooi.
