Katima Mulilo unable to render sewage suction services to residents due to broken tuck

The Katima Mulilo Town Council is unable to provide sewage suction services to residents as their truck is currently not working properly.

The town is faced with recurrent sewage overflowing and blockage challenges due to the dilapidated sewerage infrastructure.

Whenever the sewerage infrastructure malfunctions, it causes a backflow that subsequently overflows through toilets, showers, and manholes in the yards.

Council spokesperson Ipuleni Kafe-Mate told The Namibian on Saturday that the council is not sure when they will be able to fix the truck and continue rendering suction services to the residents.

She apologised for the inconvenience and said residents who make use of private service providers will be refunded by the council through their municipal bill.

“Residents who will make use of the private service providers during this time should ensure that they keep their receipts and submit them to the technical services department. Upon submission, the amount paid to the private company will be credited to the resident’s municipal bill account (rates and taxes),” she said.

She also urged residents to refrain from vandalising the sewerage infrastructure that is already in a dilapidated state.

“We kindly appeal to all residents to refrain from tampering with manholes or disposing of solid waste into the sewer system. Such actions not only damage public infrastructure but also pose serious health and environmental risks to our communities,” she said.
