THE Kamanjab constituency councillor intends constructing five houses for vulnerable people and those living with disabilities.
According to constituency councillor Engenesia Tjaretje-Ensingue, this initiative will be funded from the Kamanjab constituency development fund.
Tjaretje-Ensingue told last week that building material worth N$70 000 has been procured for the purpose thus far.
The councillor said she was waiting for the Kunene regional council to approve the tender so that a contractor can be appointed for the project.
“Despite the limited funds, we still want to make a difference in Kamanjab constituency,” Tjaretje-Ensingue told .
She said the houses will have two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and bathroom.
Tjaretje-Ensingue said she was working with those representatives of people living with disabilities, including Suzett !Guim who represents people in the Kunene region.
!Guim, who is visually impaired, will head the committee which will recommend the beneficiaries.
She welcomed the initiative by the councillor’s office.
“This is a great initiative. I urge businesses to come on board so we can change lives of more people. This initiative will take people living with disabilities as well as the vulnerable to another level,” !Guim said.
Tjaretje-Ensingue said her dream is to build a shelter for the vulnerable community members as well as the elderly.
“I feel bad as a leader. I put myself as a mother. Imagine a blind elderly person staying alone,” Tjaretje-Ensingue said.
Tjaretje-Ensingue advised would-be beneficiaries to save money so that they can pay for water and electricity connections when the time comes.
