Namibian left-footed centre-back Tjiunatjo Kakuenje (19) has completed a permanent move to Atlético Tordesillas FC, a Spanish club competing in the Segunda Federación, the fourth tier of Spanish football.
Kakuenje joins Tordesillas after spending almost a year with the u19 side of Albacete Balompié, whose senior team competes in Spain’s Segunda División.
The talented youngster moved to Spain in October 2025 and initially joined Albacete’s youth setup to adapt to Spanish football.
After gaining valuable experience with the u19 side, Kakuenje has now earned an opportunity to take the next step in his career by joining the senior ranks at Atlético Tordesillas.
His move to Spain came after just half a season in the Namibia Premier Football League top flight with Bucks Buccaneers, where he made his league debut at only 17 years old.
Speaking about his new challenge, Kakuenje says he is excited about the season ahead after being involved with the team throughout pre-season.
“The team has just been promoted to the fourth division, and we are in one of the most competitive groups in the division. It will definitely be a big challenge, but I am excited and ready for it.
“We will make our league debut next Sunday against UD Sanse. I have been with the team since the first day of pre-season and have played in all the pre-season matches, which has helped me settle in and understand how the team wants to play.
“For me, this is a big opportunity to continue developing and gaining experience at senior level. My main goal is to work hard, earn my place in the team and help the club have a successful season.”
The 19-year-old has also recently been called up to the Namibia u20 national team, which is preparing for the upcoming Afcon u20 qualifiers.
Kakuenje’s football journey began in Windhoek with Kaizen Football Academy, where he quickly stood out for his discipline, leadership qualities and ability on the ball.
He went on to captain Namibia’s u17 School Sports Union team, which represented the country at the International School Sport Federation Football World Cup in China.
During the tournament, Kakuenje scored Namibia’s only goal in a 2–1 defeat to Morocco u17.
He also captained the Namibia U17 national team in a match against German side Westfalia, scoring in a 2–2 draw. His first national team call-up came at the age of just 15 when Namibia’s U17 side competed at the Region 5 Youth Games in Malawi, where they lost 2–1 to the hosts.
Domestically, he represented the Khomas Region at the U20 Regional Cup before making his senior debut with Bucks Buccaneers.
Kakuenje was later scouted at the Cosafa U20 Cup by South African agent Charles Domingo, who remains his representative and facilitated his move to Spain a year later.
Atlético Tordesillas won Tercera Federación with 78 points, Spain’s fifth tier, during the 2025/26 season to earn promotion to the Segunda Federación.
Kakuenje is among the club’s new signings as they prepare for the challenge of competing in the fourth division.
