Jooste extends Fishcor board term for three more months

MINISTER of public enterprises Leon Jooste has extended the term of the temporary board of the National Fishing Corporation of Namibia (Fishcor) for another three months.

In a letter dated 25 August, seen by The Namibian, Jooste extended the interim board’s term of office for another three months – from 7 September to 6 December.

Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA) chief executive officer (CEO) Heinrich Mihe Goamab II remains the chairperson.

Other board members are Social Security Commission CEO Milka Mungunda, lecturer Penny Hiwilepo-Hal and lawyer Ruth Herunga, who has been the acting CEO since April.

The four were initially appointed to the board in July 2020, for six months and were expected to stabilise the corruption-tainted company and its various subsidiaries.

These re-appointments are contrary to what Jooste told The Namibian on 1 September, a day before their term was due to end.

At that time, the minister said the recruitment process of the new board was being finalised.

“The recruitment process for the new board is almost concluded and they will be ready for appointment before the end of September. We have, therefore, extended the term of the current board to avoid a governance vacuum,” said Jooste.
