The Windhoek International School (WIS) has appointed Christelien Jarman, a Grade 1 teacher since 2021, as its new head of admissions and marketing.
Effective August, Jarman steps into the role with both local and international education experience.
She started her career at Pioneers Park Primary School, worked at Windhoek Gymnasium for four years, and spent two years at ABQ International School in Muscat.
She takes over from Carol Heimstadt, who served in the role since 2001.
In a statement issued on Monday, WIS says Jarman brings deep knowledge to the school with ties to both Namibian and international communities.
The school’s education director, Ethan van Drunen, says Jarman is the perfect candidate to take on the role because she is organised and possesses great communication skills.
“Jarman’s extensive experience with event planning, community engagement, and wellness promotion make her the perfect first point-of-contact for families as they consider choosing WIS as the best fit for their children,” he says.
Jarman welcomes the appointment, saying the role is close to her heart.
“As a teacher and a parent of WIS, I know what makes the school special. I look forward to engaging with families and community partners to continue growing our international and Namibian learning community here,” she says.
She says the school is on the move, with great things happening.
Heimstadt says she has enjoyed watching the pupils grow, describing her time at WIS as driven by a shared mission.
“It has been my privilege to enroll many pupils at WIS. Each pupil and family have made and will continue to make WIS the school that it is,” she says.
WIS was established in 1990 to support Namibia’s international community and families who value a pupil-centred and holistic approach to education.
Around 50% of pupils at the school are Namibians, while around 40% are from international countries, the statement says.
