Independent Patriots for Change member of parliament Aloisius Kangulu has proposed that a specialised military hospital be constructed to address the burden on the health sector.
Kangulu stated this while tabling a notice of motion in parliament on Thursday.
“The situations we have found ourselves in where the founding president and indeed a decorated commander of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, as well as the third president, Hage Geingob, both perished in a private civilian hospital, is a very great concern,” he said.
Kangulu said this situation requires a need for a military hospital built with the capacity for research and rehabilitation of soldiers, veterans of liberation struggles and any other Namibian citizen.
He added that this must be done for the sake of national security, dignity and sovereignty.
Kangulu said a recent study shows only 45% of medical graduates secured jobs, despite high unemployment among them.
He believes that it is not a lack of capacity, hence his call that the military hospital be made a reality.
Kangulu has asked the House to discuss and debate the motion and refer it to the relevant committee.
