The High Commission of India in Windhoek is hosting an exhibition on Indian tea at Grove Mall, which started on Tuesday and runs till 9 September.
The exhibition, the first Indian tea exhibition to be held in Namibia, will showcase the heritage, diversity and cultural significance of Indian tea, including varieties from Assam, Darjeeling and Nilgiri.
“The exhibition will provide visitors an opportunity to discover the fascinating journey of Indian tea,” the high commission says in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The exhibition will also highlight India’s tea cultivation, processing and consumption traditions, as well as the sector’s contribution to livelihoods, rural development, trade and exports.
It is open to members of the public, the diplomatic corps, business community, academics, students and friends of India.
The high commission says the initiative forms part of its efforts to promote greater awareness of India’s cultural and economic heritage in Namibia and strengthen people-to-people and commercial ties between the two countries.
“Visitors will be introduced to the distinctive characteristics of different Indian teas and the unique geographical regions in which they are cultivated,” it says.
