Parliament acting like pre-primary pupils – ADM

The Action Democratic Movement (ADM) party has criticised the conduct of members of the National Assembly, accusing them of prioritising party politics over the needs of ordinary Namibians.

In a statement issued Tuesday, ADM’s head of presidential affairs, Vaino Matende, says parliament had become a “political soccer field” where shouting and scoring cheap political points overshadowed serious national business.

“The National Assembly is acting like pre-primary pupils – noisy, unfocused and without discipline,” Matende says.

He calls on members of parliament to focus on poverty, unemployment, the rising cost of living, housing, land, healthcare and education, saying these remain pressing challenges for many Namibians.

“Our people are going to bed hungry,” he says, questioning what tangible measures lawmakers had taken to address poverty and create employment for young people.

ADM also calls on the speaker to remain neutral and apply parliamentary rules equally to all political parties.

“The speaker is the referee, not a player for any team,” Matende says.

The party wants parliament to restore discipline and dedicate greater attention to poverty alleviation, job creation and service delivery, insisting that Namibians voted for solutions, not political point-scoring.
