AN independent candidate, Sam Hamunyela, who is contesting as a councillor for Endola constituency in Ohangwena region, is urging voters to go out in numbers and vote for him, as he is claiming to be the right candidate to lead the rural constituency that is hampered by a lack of infrastructure and other basic necessities.
Hamunyela, who is an economist by profession, says he aims to lead the constituency to greater heights and uplift the rural communities by bringing services closer to the people.
“There have been no changes made by the previous councillors for the past years. People are suffering and they do not have any basic amenities such as water and electricity. We still have people in this constituency who do not have access to potable clean drinking water; they depend on contaminated water from boreholes and earth dams. I want people to vote for me because once I get into office, I will work hard to uplift the living standard of my people and take them out of poverty,” he said.
He further said once voted into office, he would help to keep all children in school, especially those who are often forced to drop out of a school due to poverty and a lack of support system from the parents.
Hamunyela also promised voters that, as a councillor, he would improve the road conditions in the constituency, electrify and connect rural areas to potable clean water.
“If I win the election, I will make sure that no girl child skips school due to a lack of sanitary pads. I am going to raise funds and provide sanitary pads to schools in Endola constituency. I am also going to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds to further their studies at tertiary institutions. I am also going to tackle gender-based violence (GBV), which is rife in this constituency. People need to be engaged and educated on the dangers of GBV. I am going to try my level best to lead the people of Endola. People should go out in big numbers and vote for me, as I am the best to lead this constituency,” he said.
