TIGERS ‘ title winning captain Absalom Iimbondi is the favourite to pick up the player of the season prize at the MTC Premiership 2015/16 awards on Friday.
The shortlisted candidates for the season ending awards ‘ ceremony were announced yesterday.
After a stellar campaign in which the versatile midfielder consistently starred for Tigers, helping the club to a first league crown in over three decades, Iimbondi is expected to cap a memorable campaign with the top award worth N$30 000.
He is up against Black Africa wing back Dynamo Fredericks and teammate Ferdinand Karongee, who had an equally impressive season as the bedrock of the Tigers defence.
Iimbondi and Karongee are also nominated for the N$20 000 player ‘s player of the season prize, along with Orlando Pirates ‘ forward Terdius Uiseb, who is already guaranteed N$15 000 as the top goalscorer.
Tigers record title winning coach Brian Isaacs is guaranteed the coach of the season prize, given that he won the only silverware on offer. The prize is worth N$20 000.
His rivals are Tura Magic coach Paulus Shipanga and Orlando Pirates ‘ Lucky Kakuva. Tura Magic ended the season in third place, with Pirates a distant sixth.
In the referee of the season category are Jonas Shongedi from the Oshana region, Kunene ‘s Leston Nangombe and Jackson Pavaza of Otjozondjupa.
That award is worth N$10 000.
Isaskar Boois, Alpheus Shipanga and Mathew Kanyanga are vying for the N$10 000 assistant referee of the season prize.
The ‘special ‘ chairman ‘s award, worth N$30 000, rounds off the categories, and is selected by NPL chairman Johnny Do euml;seb.
The ceremony will be staged at the Safari Hotel in Windhoek.
