THE weather bureau has warned of very cold weather expected this weekend.
Weather forecaster Simon Dirkse yesterday said temperatures are expected to drop below zero degrees Celsius in the Khomas, Hardap and Karas regions. Maximum temperatures, especially in the South, will not be higher than 12 degrees, he said.
It might even rain in these three regions and Erongo on Friday and Saturday.Dirkse warned farmers in the South to take precautions to avoid livestock deaths. He also said people should refrain from sleeping outside this weekend, as they may die from the cold.Today, there will not be a significant change in temperatures, ranging between a minimum of 4 degrees and 25 degrees in Windhoek. Temperatures in the South started dropping by between 6 and 8 degrees yesterday already.Dirkse attributed the warm weather of the past week to to a ‘semi-stationary high-pressure system over Namibia’. This, he explained, means that warm air does not rise, making it warmer at ground level.More of this warm weather is expected by Monday or Tuesday next week.
