Hamata dumps PDM, rules out joining another party

Former parliamentarian Hidipo Hamata has resigned from the Popular Democratic Movement.

Hamata confirmed his resignation to The Namibian on Monday. He served as a National Assembly member from 2020 to 2025 and was also the party’s youth leader.

“Yes, I have resigned from PDM. I am not going to go into detail about the reasons behind that decision. Those matters remain personal, and I prefer to keep them that way. Not everything needs to be turned into public noise when people part ways,” he said.

On his future plans, Hamata said Namibia offers many opportunities beyond politics and that he would carefully consider his next steps while focusing on meaningful work that adds value and impact.

He also dismissed speculation that he could join another political party.

Hamata questioned why people assume that leaving one political party automatically means joining another.

He described such thinking as too narrow.

“It is entirely possible to step away from party politics and still remain active, productive, and committed to national development in other spaces,” he said.

In September 2025, several PDM members resigned following the party’s poor performance in the 2024 elections and the loss of its official opposition status to the Independent Patriots for Change.
