Gurirab nets NPL awards brace

LIFE Fighters sensation Isaskar ‘Bio’ Gurirab bagged a double of MTC Namibia Premiership player of the season and top scorer prizes at the topflight league’s awards ceremony in Windhoek on Saturday.

The 21 year-old hitman missed out on a hat trick of awards as midfielder Wesley Katjiteo of NPL league champions Black Africa took the players’ player of the season prize.

Gurirab, presently with the Brave Warriors for their Africa Cup of Nations camp in Dubai, was rewarded for his remarkable debut season in the premiership where he scored 22 goals in 24 matches.

His two awards, accepted by his beaming mother Priscilla Guriras on his behalf, were only bettered by Black Africa as a collective.  Head coach Paulus ‘Wire’ Shipanga collected the top coaching awards as expected to add to his and the team’s league championship winning gold. 

“I want to thank the heavenly father for giving me a son like Isaskar Gurirab. I’m so happy to be here on behalf of Isaskar,” she said in her acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, former NPL chairman JJ Doeseb was honoured with the chairman’s award by his successor Patrick Kauta. He shared the award with legendary Oscar ‘Silver Fox’ Mengo.
