The Grootfontein Municipality has extended its office operating hours to assist residents affected by a water supply interruption caused by an unexpected power outage on Saturday.
In a statement, the municipality said its offices were opened on Saturday and would reopen on Sunday to allow residents to buy water, which they could not do when the prepaid water system was interrupted.
The offices were to operate until 16h00 on Saturday and from 08h00 to 13h00 on Sunday.
Grootfontein local authority spokesperson Luke Salomo said the water disruption resulted from a power interruption, which affected the town’s water supply system.
“We appreciate your patience and assure you that restoring normal service remains our highest priority. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” Salomo stated.
