Goverment dismisses rumours of 600 SADC police officers jetting in for Geingob’s funeral

Information and communication technology minister Emma Theofelus has dismissed rumours that about 600 police officers from different Southern African countries have jetted into the country for the funeral of president Hage Geingob slated for Sunday, 25 February.

She said about 27 heads of state and government will grace the funeral.

Updating the nation on the latest developments on Tuesday, Theofelus said vendors can sell their wares at designated points and emphasised that the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

According to Theofelus proceedings are so far moving according to plan.

As part of the celebrations of Geingob’s life, a music festival is also slated to take place at Katutura in Windhoek this week. The event will be free for members of the public.

Theofelus called on Namibians to line up at designated routes of the procession to pay their respects to the late president.
