Gondwana Card proves effective

THE Gondwana Card introduced by the tourism company in March last year has improved booking statistics, particularly in the off-season.

This is according to the company’s spokesperson, Sven-Eric Kanzler.
He said the card was effective because school holidays in Namibia and South Africa coincided with the low tourist season from Europe, providing an opportunity for added income.
It entitles Namibians to a 50 per cent discount on accommodation and breakfast and a 25 per cent discount on dinner, while other SADC residents get a 40 per cent discount on accommodation and breakfast.
To date, Kanzler said the company has issued 1 770 cards to Namibians and 320 to other SADC residents.
The tourism sector is the second highest employer in Namibia, and increased bookings mean increased jobs for local people.
Kanzler also said the card could play an important role in giving locals insight into the tourism sector as it let them have the ‘tourist experience’.
Gondwana owns such establishments as the Namib Desert Lodge, Etosha Safari Camp and the Klein-Aus Vista Collection.
