This comes at extreme cost to manufacturers, who must ensure EVs are reliable, safe and affordable. Some European governments have already started imposing stricter measures, and have even set deadlines to force motor vehicle manufacturers to phase out internal combustion engines (ICE) as part of a greener future and to alleviate the burden of climate change. These drastic measures place immense pressure on manufacturers to keep up with the pace and demand of EVs. These developments also bring up a number of questions about where and how these cars will be charged, whether or not they can handle the long distances between many Namibian towns, and if they will be affordable and safe? There may be more questions than answers, but Top Revs will get to the bottom of them. Some of the leading names in the industry are already busy with planning and logistics behind the scenes to ensure that when the day comes, no one will be caught unaware. During the recent opening of the Metje & Ziegler (M&Z) showroom at Ondangwa in the Oshana region, managing director Ekko Eisenberg assured potential electric Mercedes owners that M&Z ais already busy with strategic plans for the cars' arrival in Namibia later this year. Mercedes-Benz EV models – EQB, EQS and EQE – will surely be eye-catching, state-of-the-art technology, close to silent driving and a stunning design, and will be available in both SUVs and sedans.“That is another big challenge coming our way from an economic and infrastructure point of view, but you can be assured we will be keeping up with the times,” Eisenberg said. “EVs will become part of the future and our lives.”Only time will tell if and how these cars will be accepted in our communities. Team Top Revs eagerly awaits the cars which will herald the start of a new era in the automotive industry, changing the way we think, drive and act.
