Sales supervisor William du Toit, who started as a junior salesperson at Honda, told Top Revs the first vehicle he sold was a Honda, and is still making history as he lives the brand.
But where do we start, as this car has a fresh look in comparison to the other Hondas in the showroom? From the grill, headlights, right through to the back, the HR-V talks to you.
Asked why this car is appealing to him, Du Toit only answered: “The look, the look, the look. This car has a futuristic look, and if you take a closer glimpse at how this car is finished off, I can only say it is an amazing job done.”
THE INTERIOR
The seating and interior of the car is worth making time to go and see. Apart from the leather seats, ambient lights and unique panoramic glass roof, with its own sun protectors, the car comes with what Honda terms the “magic seats”. This system allows the driver or passenger, with the flip of a lever, to increase the space behind the front seats for easy loading or storage of luggage or any other bags without the need to put it on the rear seats and possibly damage them. The rear seats are fitted with easy to operate Isofix child seat anchors.
The car comes with a colour-coded front grill with high fitted light-emitting diode (LED) headlights, LED daytime running lights, auto high beams (HBM) and LED fog lights. The rear of the car is just as attractive with a modern and solid light cluster with the reverse, brake lights and indicators neatly packaged in one cluster just above the registration plate.
Getting to the safety of the car, Du Toit bombarded Top Revs with all the safety features ranging from airbags to the “Honda sensing” gadgets for a safer and comfortable ride.
To start off Mr Honda, as Top Revs dubbed this vibrant man, the car comes with an SRS airbag system that includes a dual front, side and curtain system in case of a crash. The smart keyless entry with a walk-away locking system means if your hands are full, you can still leave and once the car senses the key is out of reach, it will automatically lock itself.
Driving and drivers”; safety is complemented with a list of features like an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist and hill decent control, which all assist the driver.
To enhance the safety features and avoid driver fatigue, the car comes with an adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist system to warn the driver if he is going out of his lane. The car comes with a collision-mitigating braking system, which alerts the driver to take corrective action when it senses an object or pedestrian that might cause a crash.
Rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera come as standard package with your HR-V.
THE EXTERIOR
Standing next to the car, one of the main features on this car is the 18″; wheels and unlike the normal colours like gold, white or grey, they come in what Honda terms a “;modern steel”; colour. The alloys or mag-rims enhance the look of the vehicle, Du Toit said.
The car comes with a 1,5L chain driven DOHC I-VTEC engine delivering a comfortable 89kW at 4 300rpm, making it ideal for both city and long-distance driving.
The engine is more than capable to take this car with ease through the paces and boast a fuel consumption of 6 litres/100km, giving it a combined consumption of around 16,6 kilometres per litre, (a comfortable reach of almost 800km on full tank).
To endorse the product, Du Toit said the car also comes with a good back-up service and warranty stamp, as expected from Honda.
The warranty and service also come standard with the car, and Du Toit assured Top Revs that the Honda technicians and service crew stand ready to ensure your Honda is well taken care of.
The car comes with a five-year/200 000km warranty, a service plan of four years/60 000km with 15 000km service intervals.
