Former ambassador Kaiyamo salutes The Namibian at 40

Former ambassador to China Elia Kaiyamo has congratulated The Namibian, calling the newspaper “the voice of truth, courage and progress” in documenting Namibia’s journey from struggle to independence.

“Some of us were honoured to contribute articles under combat names, trusted by the movement. Your fearless journalism continues to inspire us all,” Kaiyamo said on his social media platform on Friday.

Kaiyamo recalled how people like Daniel Tjongarero, Niko Bessinger and judge Dave Smuts encouraged support for the newspaper.

“Our efforts to mobilise communities and the youth to join the vanguard party were made easier by the presence of The Namibian,” he said.

The Namibian marked its 40th anniversary on Saturday.
