Cricket Namibia announced FNB as the official naming sponsor of their new cricket stadium at a corporate business breakfast on Friday morning.
At the occasion, FNB reaffirmed their commitment to the game of cricket in Namibia and announced their new role as the stadium naming sponsor and the associate partner to the Richelieu Eagles.
“The construction of the new cricket stadium is an exciting development not only for Cricket Namibia but for the entire nation. The 2027 Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted with Cricket South Africa and Zimbabwe Cricket, marking the first time Namibia will host World Cup games,” Cricket Namibia said in a press release.
“We are thankful and privileged to get FNB’s full support. They have been a consistent partner through our development program, and it is amazing to see their massive involvement now with the stadium and men’s cricket. We are proud to be associated with a brand like FNB. Thank you for supporting us in this journey as we create milestones together,” Cricket Namibia chief executive officer Johan Muller said.
The partnership between Cricket Namibia and FNB has been secured through a three-year contract, extending up until just before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027.
“This collaboration signifies a major milestone in Cricket Namibia’s journey and highlights the continued support from FNB towards the growth and development of cricket in Namibia,” the press release states.
“With the construction of the new stadium underway, the future of cricket in Namibia looks brighter than ever. The support from FNB ensures that Cricket Namibia is well-prepared to host international events and provide a world-class facility for players and fans,” it added.
FNB in a press release stated that supporting sport and cricket in particular was a natural extension of their dedication to fostering community spirit and national pride.
“Sport has the unique ability to unite people from all walks of life, transcending social, economic and cultural barriers. It promotes a healthy lifestyle, teaches discipline and inspires all to dream big and achieve greatness,” it said.
“This stadium symbolises our belief in the potential of Namibian sport and our commitment to nurturing that potential,” Nangula Kaluma of FNB Namibia retail banking said.
“It will serve as a beacon of excellence, encouraging more young people to take up cricket and other sports, knowing they have the support of institutions like FNB Namibia behind them. We are extremely excited to be going into partnership with Cricket Namibia and look forward to this new exciting chapter for our country,” she added.
Sepo Haihambo CEO of FNB Namibia commercial banking added that: “This stadium will attract international events, boosting tourism and contribute to the local economy. It will create opportunities for local businesses and provide a venue where memories are made and dreams come true.”
“We are also excited to announce that as of 1 August FNB Namibia will also be the associate sponsor of the national team. We are investing in the future of Namibian sport, the future and success of our national team, as well as the development of the youth. We believe in the power of sport to change lives, build a brighter future for our nation and unite our country,” she added.
