The dress, the shoes and the hair… All things every woman (and even some fabulous men) has to organise to the last detail when preparing for a big event.
However, all your efforts can be pointless if your face looks like something out of a Nigerian movie. The recently held Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) saw a bevy of beauties looking not only gorgeous in stunning gowns but with immaculately made-up faces topping off their glamorous looks.
Hannah Nangula, the make-up artist who worked on most of the NAMA presenters and hosts, did an excellent job. She ensured various presenters like Helena Mootseng, Florence Haifene and even NAMAs executive, Tim Ekandjo, looked absolutely flawless.
“I received very good feedback on my work and a lot of people wrote to me on my Facebook page with requests,” she says.
Growing up in Walvis Bay, Hannah Nangula studied fashion design at the College of The Arts (Cota) and was employed at the Namibian Broadcasting Corperation (NBC) soon afterwards. She did the make-up for most of the lifestyle programmes at the broadcaster. “Make-up was part of my studies and I realised I was better at it than fashion designing so I decided to approach the NBC to employ me as a make-up artist.”
She has worked with many personalities and celebs but says that she dreams of doing make-up for members of parliament. “I want to do their make-up because they are sweating a lot it seems,” she says with a laugh. Her big make-up ‘no no’ is white eyeliner and using the wrong foundation shade.
“Some people use the wrong shade of foundation on their skin and it never looks natural. Another mistake is using blusher that’s too bright. It’s better to be subtle and natural,” she advises. A clear distinction between stage or TV make-up and real life make-up is also important, she says. Any interested individuals can contact Hannah on her Facebook account.
