THE first lady, Monica Geingos, has confirmed she is suing Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) Ohangwena mobiliser Abed Hishoono for allegedly spreading defamatory and false allegations over her involvement in Fly Westair.
In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Geingos says Stimulus Investment Limited sold its 29% shareholding in Westair Maintenance on 17 February 2011. Geingos was a shareholder in Stimulus Investment Limited during that period.
“It appears that when I seek to rise above the noise and the malice of false accusations, some interpret my silence as guilt or consent for them to make up even more lies. As the summons is a publicly available document, I make this statement as I wish to provide context on why I took the decision to litigate and why I am concerned about the increasingly toxic and slanderous nature of our public discourse,” she notes.
The first lady further says, in her view, the most distasteful aspect of Hishoono’s alleged defamatory audio-visual recording was when one of her children became the target.
“The same child has been placed in a life-threatening situation due to the outright lie that my child’s father is one of the detained Fishrot accused and the false allegation that my child has benefited from ‘Fishrot’ money,” Geingos states.
