After almost 10 years of living outside Namibia, Afro-pop legend Faizel MC has released his new single, ‘Banjuka’.
The artist is currently also running a video dance competition called #100videochallenge on his Instagram account for those who want to showcase their talent.
Faizel MC lives in Berlin with his family after leaving the country in 2011.
His last musical contribution in Namibia was in 2010 when he released his album ‘Back Again’, featuring hits like ‘Ekse’, ‘So in love’ and ‘Dansa serious’.
“I left Namibia to go back to my home town. At that time I also had some low moments in my life. My family had issues, so I needed to be around and fix the family business. I later decided to stay and expand my music career here as well. More exciting new things are coming from me,” he says.
“I have a video challenge for all my people, and will put an award up for anyone who wins the challenge. People will have to record themselves while having fun with my new song. There are no limits. They can do anything. They can slay queen, dance, act, do comedy – whatever they wish to do, as long as my new song is playing in the background alongside their talent.
“They must post the video to their pages and tag us on Instagram @Faizelmc. Prizes are up for grabs – UD 100 in the first week, then another week, and in the third week the winner wins USD 300. A live chat with us is also up for grabs. The video must be less than two minutes long,” he says.
Faizel MC released ‘Banjuka’ on 15 June and says the song means “enjoy, Namibia”.
“The message in it is just a mix of a love story with having a good time, no matter what. Have fun despite the hard times. It is a song for my Namibian people. The song was mixed and mastered by a producer from Germany,” the artist, also known as King Moto, says.
Faizel MC plans to release the music video for the song shortly after his dance challenge competition has ended.
The video will be produced by Ogopa Butterfly and directed by D-Ruiz and Faizel MC himself.
The artist says fans can also soon expect a new amapiano song from him. Other new and recently released songs include ‘Energy’, featuring Oteya, and ‘Oshoye’, with hikwa pioneer Sunny Boy.
