The Salvation Army, a faith-based ministry assisting those affected by poverty, hunger and abuse, has launched a campaign to assist vulnerable people to cope with the winter conditions.
The Winter Drive campaign, launched on 6 June in Windhoek, will see the Salvation Army provide warm meals, clothing, blankets and groceries to people in need throughout the winter season.
The campaign is being conducted under the theme ‘Warm Hearts, Warm Hands’ and is aimed at assisting people facing harsh winter conditions while promoting dignity, care and hope within communities.
In a statement issued on 18 June, the organisation’s officer in charge, Major Nkosi, says the campaign not only seeks to meet immediate physical needs, but also shows care to community members facing difficult circumstances.
“We extend our appreciation to all community members who continue to contribute to the success of this outreach. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in the lives of many,” he says.
He says communities in need can liaise with the councillors’ offices or churches to receive assistance.
Nkosi expresses appreciation to Africa on Wheels for supporting the initiative through the donation of sleeping bags, adding that they provide warmth and comfort to those most affected by the cold.
He adds that the demand for assistance remains high, and many children and families still require blankets, warm clothing, sleeping bags, food parcels and other essential items.
He urges individuals, businesses, faith communities and organisations to continue supporting the winter drive campaign to assist vulnerable societies in need.
“Together, through warm hearts and helping hands, we can bring hope, dignity and warmth to those who need it most,” Nkosi says.
