WINDHOEK – TransNamib Bowling Club player Will Esterhuizen won the Champion of Champions men’s bowling tournament for the fifth time in a row over the weekend.
The tournament was held in Walvis Bay on Saturday.
His win now sees Esterhuizen entering the record books as the first player to win the title for a fifth successive year.
A media statement availed to Nampa on Wednesday by the Namibia Bowling Association said Namib Park Bowling Club’s Steven Peake had a shaky start, losing his first game 13-21 against Johan Jacobs of Windhoek Country Club (WCC) bowling, but he eventually found his stride to finish as runner-up.
In the women’s competition it was Tsumeb Bowling Club’s Marietjie van den Bergh who emerged victorious.
Van den Bergh found herself facing defeat on more than one occasion, but showed her mettle to come from behind and win each time.
Amanda Steenkamp from Windhoek Country Club pipped Connie Olivier (Namib Park) on shot difference, to finish runner-up.
The statement said it is no coincidence that both Esterhuizen and Van den Bergh are the current Namibian closed singles champions and will be representing the country at the World Singles Champion of Champions in Australia, later this year. – Nampa
