It is really awful to have numerous pupils failing just because of their background and lack of motivation and empowerment.
Why? Perhaps I can say we are where we come from, because the society where we live means a lot to us. Schools operate within society, which is why schools cannot refrain from this influence.
Still, the question is: How can we get out of this trouble?
Since we are all from diverse backgrounds, we need skills that can sharpen and develop our personality. So only from life skills as a subject and school clubs that are available at schools can we get some of the traits that are necessary to enhance academic performance. Life skills in most schools is a subject that is not taken seriously, due to the fact that it is a non-promotional subject and teachers mainly concentrate on the promotional subjects, forgetting that life skills is the mother of all subjects.
In life skills, we can gain all the skills that are necessary to cope with a variety of life’s challenges. We learn study skills, communication skills, social skills and other many skills that help us in dealing with life issues. If we did not take these subjects seriously, that means education is not responding to the needs and demand of the society.
We need to change the state of mind of pupils, so that they think positively about their lives. This can be done by empowering and motivating pupils in life skills. I can conclude that life skills must be given to preferred teachers who are willing and have a passion to change society.
Apart from that, we also have clubs in school like English club, debate club, etc., which are very important in boosting pupils’ confidence and teaching skills like organisation, leadership and management and other skills that can help them in the long-run as well as in dealing with critical questions in texts and examinations.
Schools must allow pupils to get involved in extra-curricular activities because they contribute a lot to education. Everyone is just unique in his or her own way, therefore all school activities should be respected to give advantages to pupils in order for them to excel in their field of study.
Pupils must not be afraid and limit themselves from joining dynamic and proactive clubs that equip them with strategic social skills, leadership skills and other skills that enhance their cognitive domain. This is the key to opening pupils’ minds and enhancing their performance.
