Elderly man’s body found in Ohangwena earth dam

The body of an elderly man was reportedly discovered floating in an earth dam at Odibo in the Ohangwena region on Saturday.


Namibian Police Ohangwena crime investigation coordinator deputy commissioner Melanie Mburu on Monday said the body of the unknown man was discovered at around 07h50 by villagers collecting water.


She said the deceased was found wearing a yellow jersey, blue T-shirt, brown trousers and black shoes.


“The body was retrieved by members of the Special Reserve Force and transported to the Engela State Hospital, where he was certified dead by the doctor.


No foul play is suspected and a post-mortem examination is due to be conducted.


In a separate incident, a man (38) was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a girl (10) at a village in the Ohangwena region.

According to Mburu, the alleged incident occurred at around 21h30 on Thursday.


A rape case has been made against the suspect. He is expected to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
