Du Plessis gets new Wasps deal

LONDON Wasps forward Tinus Du Plessis was handed a contract extension by the club on Friday.

Du Plessis and fellow forward James Cannon were both offered long term deals by Wasps director of rugby Dai Young as he continued to shape his squad for next season.Du Plessis joined the London outfit in January on a short-term contract after impressing for Namibia in the World Cup. The back rower has done enough during his short time with the club to convince boss Dai Young of his potential. The 23-year-old Cannon has missed the majority of the current campaign due to injury but turned out for Wasps 23 times last season. Young believes that like Du Plessis, the lock has what it takes to drive Wasps forward.’I have been really impressed with both of these players this season. Tinus is a very versatile back-row and he has got his head down and worked incredibly hard since arriving in January. With the hunger and desire he has shown he is fully deserving of a permanent deal,’ Young told the club’s official website.Du Plessis expressed his joy at the new deal, a real step forward in his career.’I am delighted to have secured my future with Wasps and I am hugely grateful to Dai for this opportunity. I have been learning and improving all the time in the set-up since I arrived and I feel I have a lot more to give,’ he said. – planet-rugby.co.za
