DTA in labour dispute

DTA in labour dispute

THE Directorate of Legal Aid in the Ministry of Justice has decided to assist a DTA former employee in a civil case against the party.

South West Africa People’s Democratic United Front (Swapduf) Secretary General Edward !Aoxamub is taking the DTA of Namibia to the Labour Court over unpaid salaries and other benefits. The Namibian has seen documentary evidence in which the Directorate has informed !Aoxamub that they have appointed a lawyer for him to fight the DTA.!Aoxamub said he was just one of the employees the party retrenched without any notice while the salaries of others were reduced without following proper channels.”I’m going to spill the beans.I’ll open up the DTA history,” he said.!Aoxamub had previously called on the entire DTA leadership to resign or face revolution from within to avoid a total collapse of the alliance.Last week he told The Namibian that he was actively seeking Swapduf’s withdrawal from the DTA because it has become a party for one ethnic group.”It is not going to pay to continue as a member of DTA.Swapduf can’t continue to vote for no change. There is no new blood in the leadership.DTA is now based on Hereroism. This is what Nico (Smit) warned against a few years ago,” he said. Before he resigned in 2002, former DTA Administrative Secretary Nico Smit wrote a memorandum to the party management committee claiming that the party was in disarray because of its leaders’ alleged lack of commitment. He accused the party’s MPs of fighting for better salaries and perks instead of campaigning for better living conditions for the electorate.!Aoxamub said he has already informed Swapduf president Albert Tsuob about the need for the party to withdraw from the DTA.Two of Swapduf’s former leaders Max Haraseb and Daniel Luiperdt have joined Swapo in the recent past.”For what goodness must we remain in the DTA? Following DTA has become a cul-de-sac,” he said.!Aoxamub said he had no intentions of joining the Rally for Democracy and Progress as alleged by some people or creating a new political party.
