Don Kamati Set to Host Listening Session for ‘Sativa’

The self-proclaimed king of dancehall in Namibia, Don Kamati, is finally ready to give his fans a taste of his highly anticipated EP ‘Sativa’.

According to the afro-fusion maestro, the EP name is fitting because he feels that his greater music journey has just begun.

“I feel relieved and like a huge burden is being lifted off my back, but in a postive way. My fans, people in the industry and people from all around the world have been waiting for me to showcase my music in a full project,” he says.

After collaborating with a ton of local musicians, including the likes of Top Cheri, DJ Castro, Sally Boss Madam, Chris Wayne, DjJKBoz, Yessonia and DJ Spuzza, the master collaborator is now ready to present a full musical project that he says will be a staple of Namibian music and the reggae/dancehall genre for generations to come.

“I also felt a little bit of pressure because the industry is filled with so much talent and it would be a miss if I had not taken this opportunity to actually release this body of work. As a leader of dancehall music in the country I felt it was something I had to do and it took me a very long time to come to this point,” he says.

Don Kamati further notes that a listening session which is scheduled to take place at Vinyls music cafe and restaurant in Windhoek on 18 March is merely a listening session and not a performance.

“I’m showcasing my music and not performing it. I mean I have done most of what I wanted to achieve and my boxes are pretty much ticked when it comes to what I needed to do before dropping any big projects. So this will be an opportunity for me to sit back with fans and people close to me to just listen and criticise or praise the music,” he says.

Kamati adds that the listening session is important to him because people in attendance can shape, add or take away from his current journey of rebranding.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for everything and anything to happen to my music career. Now my music will be on all major online music streaming platforms and my international counterparts will be exposed to my music. So I feel I’m ready to be in those big rooms with the big boys and big girls,” he ends.
