Diplomats engage in friendly golf warfare

The Americas team won the 2024 Continental Challenge hosted by the Windhoek Diplomatic Golf Group in Windhoek earlier this week.

The friendly competition saw 16 representatives from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas taking part at Windhoek Country Club Resort.

They represented Namibia, Brazil, Colombia, South Africa (African group), Finland, Germany and the United Kingdom (European group), India, Indonesia, Japan and China/Macau (Asian group).

The challenge counted on the technical advice of Namibian golf master Joe Nawanga.

The players used the four ball alliance, where a combination of team members’ scores on each hole counted toward their team.

The final results brought the Americas team to the gold medal (52 points), followed by Africa with the silver medal (47 points), Europe in third place with the bronze medal (46 points) and Asia in fourth (41 points).

The prizes were presented by the ambassador of Brazil to Namibia, Vivian Sanmartin, the high commissioner of India, Rahul Shrivastava, and the spouse of the Portuguese ambassador, Patricia Carmo.

“We hope this tournament becomes a tradition in Namibia, as a way to congregate the local diplomatic community through golf,” said the organisers of the event.
